Perception and practice of family planning in the extended postpartum period

Background: During the postpartum period, family planning (FP) can prevent about 30% of maternal mortality and 10% child if couples space their pregnancies more than 2 years apart. Conversely, closely spaced within first year increase risks preterm birth, low birth weight, small-for-gestational-age babies. Objective: To determine perception practice in extended period. Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among women attending Gynaecology clinic, infant welfare clinic Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos. Information obtained includes socio-demographic data, spouse education, income, knowledge of, attitude towards, utilization methods along with partner’s involvement decision-making towards arrival at choice methods.
